I’ve always filmed to remember:
For me memories become alive, when there are unknown yet persistent attempts to repeat and reverse.
Inability to reiterate my yesterday sets up the foreground for a possible lack of comprehension in the lives of others.
Remembering, therefore, remains to be a minimum effort to relate myself to others.
My approach to film concerns for its affective and performative dimension and expanding these relations continuously in the action of filming.
나는 기억이 소통’되는’ 방식에 관심이 있다. 저항의 실천적인 의미에서 ‘어떻게 기억하는가’ 는 나에게 가장 큰 질문이다.
그 질문은 기록의 매체로서의 영화를 소환하고 현실의 가시성과 비가시성의 문제를 대동한다.
선택적 기억, 기록되지 않았던 어제, 잠재적 역사, 예언 또는 망각의 문턱에서 억압된 존재가 일상의 표피와 맞닿을 때, 거기서 비롯되는 마찰과 파열의 기록이 기억의 소통을 가능하게 한다고 생각한다.
기억은 반복과 번복을 번갈아가며 생성된다. 나의 어제를 다시 살아갈 수 없음은 타인의 삶을 완벽하게 이해할 수 없음과 같은 맥락안에 있다.
그래서 나에게 기억을 하려는 노력은 타자와의 관계 맺기로 향한 최소한의 발버둥이다.
그리고 그것을 수행하고 증폭하는 정동의 매체로서의 영화에 접근하고자 한다.
