Sungeun Kim is a filmmaker, audiovisual researcher, and collaborator based on Jeju Island, South Korea, also working under the name Grace. Through documentary, moving-image installation, sound, and research-based collaboration, they engage with Jeju’s volcanic ecology, layered histories, and sites of resistance, exploring how memory is felt and communicated through cinema.
Their work recalls what has been forgotten or submerged while imagining worlds that have yet to emerge or be spoken. Through collaborative processes, they approach cinema as a medium for listening, exploring its sensory and performative possibilities for gesture, relation, and subtle forms of resistance.
김성은은 제주도를 기반으로 활동하는 영화감독, 시청각 연구자이자 협력자이다. 그레이스라는 활동명을 쓴다. 다큐멘터리, 영상 설치, 사운드, 연구 기반의 협업을 통해 제주의 화산 생태와 축적된 역사, 저항의 장소들에 주목하며, 기억이 영화 안에서 어떻게 감각되고 전달되는지를 탐구한다. 잊히거나 침잠한 것을 떠올리는 동시에 아직 출현하지 않았거나 말해지지 않은 세계를 상상하며, 협업의 과정 속에서 영화를 ‘듣기’를 위한 매체이자 몸짓과 관계 맺기, 섬세한 저항의 감각적·수행적 가능성을 확장하는 장으로 탐색한다.
